ABOUT ME
ABOUT DOCTOR ROX
Â
I am not someone who just studied communication. I lived it. I fought for it. I built it from nothing.

My story didn’t start in a classroom. It started in survival.
I was a child in foster care before being adopted by my grandparents. I experienced loss early, including losing my mother to suicide. I struggled through school, barely passing at times, and had to fight just to graduate. I became a mother young, got married young, and eventually found myself navigating life as a single mother.

There were moments in my life where things were unstable, uncertain, and painful. I’ve experienced broken relationships, hardship, and seasons where I had to rebuild from the ground up with no safety net.
At one point, I made the decision to change my life completely. I packed up everything and moved to Atlanta without money, without a clear plan, but with a commitment to become more than what I had been through.

Â
That decision changed everything.
I went back to school and committed myself to studying communication. Not just how to speak, but how people heal, how confidence is formed, and how identity shapes the way we show up in the world.
I became a public speaking professor. I built a career teaching others how to find their voice. And I continued pushing forward, even when life remained difficult, even while raising my children, even while navigating personal challenges.
Today, I am completing my PhD in Communication. I hold leadership roles in higher education. I have built programs, thousands of students, and created spaces where people learn to believe in themselves again.

But what makes my work different is this:
My confidence did not come from simply practicing speeches. It came from doing the internal work. It came from rebuilding my sense of self. It came from learning that my worth is not tied to outcomes, rejection, or mistakes.
That is what I teach.
I am a mother of four. I move between New York and Georgia. I am someone who understands what it means to start over, to feel unseen, and to fight to find your voice.
And I am also someone who knows what is possible when you do.
This is not just what I do.
This is who I am.
